Latrice Paxton McBroome

Latrice Paxton McBroome of Lubbock passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at the age of 90.  She was born February 4, 1924 in Spur, Texas to Jeff Walter and Margaret Elizabeth (Holt) Loe. As a child she moved to Lamesa and graduated from Lamesa High School, attended Abilene Christian College and Draughn’s Business College. She worked as a church secretary at Green Lawn Church of Christ and a secretary in the education department at Texas Tech and also at Reese Air Force Base. Latrice married Don D. Fritz in 1942; he died in 1949 in a plane crash. She was married to John W. Paxton who preceded her in death in 1985;

She married Lt. Colonel Clinton McBroome in 2001; he preceded her in death in 2003.  Latrice has been a member of Green Lawn Church of Christ since 1967.

Those left to cherish her memory are her 2 daughters, Donna Johnson and husband Rick and Lyn Lewis and husband Jerry all of Lubbock; 3 sons, Kenny Paxton and wife Anne of Dimmitt, Steve Paxton and wife Sharon of Plano, and Dr. Jeff Paxton and wife Debbie of Lubbock; step-children, Michael McBroome, Armando Olivas, John McBroome, Maureen Hixson and Michelle Shadwick; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Latrice was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sister, Mary (Bubbles) Archer; and a brother, Joe Loe.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Homes. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Green Lawn Church of Christ with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Family suggest memorial be made to the John & Latrice Paxton Scholarship Fund at Lubbock Christian University or to the Children’s Home of Lubbock.
