Lewis "Smokey" Martin

Lewis Delton “Smokey” Martin, 83, of Lubbock, was born on July 27, 1941, in Matador, to the late Joy Lee and Anna Belle (Hagle) Martin. He went home to be with his Lord on April 27, 2025.

Smokey met the love of his life, Virginia Nichols, and they were married on August 23, 1962, in Lubbock.

He has owned and operated S & M Auto Sales in Lubbock for over 50 years, before retiring in 2014. He loved to ride and tinker with his motorcycles. He was also into classical cars, vintage cars and was very religious. He was a long time member of Trinity Church.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Virginia of Lubbock; one son, Gary Martin and wife Stephanie of Trophy Club, Texas; one brother, Ronny Ray Martin and wife Pat of Lubbock; three grandchildren: Garrett Martin, Trevor Thomas and Skyler Thomas, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Smokey was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Seretha Phillips in January of 2025; his brother, Johnnie Lynn Martin in December of 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Reverend Denise Dietz, of Trinity Church, will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.  There will be no visitation or viewing scheduled for Smokey.

The pallbearers will be Jerry Martin, John Martin, Morgan Baker, Marty Baker, Jason Watt and Maynard Coffin.
