Linda Gail Cunningham, a woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and remarkable talents, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Lubbock, Texas. She was 75 years old.
Linda was born on July 28, 1950, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late A.R. and Oneita Ruth (Brooks) Green. From her earliest years, she was a determined and gifted lady, approaching everything she set her mind to with grace and tenacity. She grew up in Azle, where she completed high school before pursuing an education that reflected the dual passions that would define her life – faith and learning. She earned an Associate's degree in Education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and English from New Mexico State University. These were not simply credentials; they were expressions of who she was.
Guided by deep Christian conviction, Linda faithfully served her husband, her family, and those around her. Her early years of ministry took her to the mission field in Arizona, and her heart for missions led her to relocate to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to help foster greater support for that work. It was there, at church, that she met Walter Cunningham, Sr. They married on July 5, 1974, and built a life together marked by love, purpose, and shared faith.
The family settled in Alamogordo for 13 years, where Linda and Walter raised their 3 sons. Whatever form their schooling took, Linda's investment in her sons' education never wavered; she was determined that each of them would be grounded in both knowledge and character. The family later moved to Clovis, New Mexico, where they would spend three rich decades before relocating to Lubbock in 2022 to be closer to family. Wherever home was, Linda made it a place of warmth and welcome, and wherever the family wandered, they found joy together. They spent countless hours camping, hiking, and gathering around a good picnic, always enjoying God’s creation and one another’s company.
Linda was a gifted seamstress and an accomplished pianist for more than 40 years. But perhaps her greatest gift was the way she made people feel at home. She was organized and generous, always ready with a meal and an open door. She was the kind of person who filled every room with grace.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 52 years, Walter Cunningham, Sr., of Lubbock; her sons Walter Cunningham, Jr. and wife MaDawn of Lubbock, Carl Cunningham and wife Noemi of Spain, and Aaron Cunningham and wife Jennifer of Azle; seven grandchildren – Mason, Justin (and wife Kinley), Brandon, Jaxon, Colton, Taylor, and Sammy; and her sisters Karen Passmore, Laura Winkles, and Phyllis Rodriguez.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Sherrell Green.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at First Assembly of God, 3801 98th St, Lubbock, Texas. Private burial will follow at a later time.
