Loretta Mae Burton

Loretta Mae Burton, 84, of O’Donnell, passed away on Monday evening, May 26, 2025. Loretta was born on September 9, 1940, in Afton, Dickens County, Texas, to the late L. V. Haney and Avis (Mullins) Haney.

She met the love of her life, Vernon Leon Burton, and they were united in marriage on January 2, 1956, in Muleshoe, Texas. Loretta worked in the school cafeteria for South Elementary School in Levelland for approximately 15 years, before retiring in 1992.

Loretta loved reading books, working puzzle books, and was an avid antique shopper and collector, as well as enjoying her arts and crafts. She was a former member of Richland Hills Baptist Church in Muleshoe.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her two sons: Scott Burton of O’Donnell and Randy Burton of Levelland; three brothers: Robbie Haney of Slaton, Greg Haney of Muleshoe and Lindon Haney of Lazbuddie; three sisters: Linda Evans of Tyler, Deborah Lee of Tahoka and Connie Kemp of Lazbuddie; five grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon Leon Burton on April 28, 2023, and one brother, Dana Keith Haney.

The family will receive friends during a visitation for Loretta on Sunday, June 1. 2025, from 5 to 7 PM in the Oak Crest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, in Lubbock. Loretta will be laid to rest, next to her husband Vernon, during a graveside service at 2 PM on Monday, June 2, 2025, in the Lazbuddie Cemetery in Lazbuddie, Texas, with Dr. Stacy Conner of First Baptist Church in Muleshoe.

The pallbearers will be Chris Altman, Braden Altman, Jaiden Chavera, Jayden Cline, Devonte Burton and Brice Haney.
