Margie Barker

Margie Ellen Barker (Gares), 79, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023. Margie was born on January 14, 1944, in Tucumcari, New Mexico to Kenneth Vaughn Gares and Ida Lura (Elliot) Gares.

She met Robert Barker, the love of her life, and they were united in marriage on September 24, 1960, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Margie obtained her master’s degree in education, one of 5 degrees she had received in her lifetime. She worked many years in educating the next generations, then later retiring from teaching in the early 2000’s.

She loved to play softball, cook delicious meals for her loved ones, get lost in a good book, and research her family’s extensive history.

She is survived by her husband Robert Barker; daughter, Shanna Barker; sons, Wade and James Barker; brothers, Mickey and Glen Gares; sister, Darlene Rohrer; grandchildren, Michael Barker, Rene Barker, Asher Rohrer, Sierra Barker, Cheyenne Black; along with numerous other loved relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Wayne Gares, Dale Gares, and Michael Gares.

A memorial service for Margie will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.
