Maria G. "Mama Chacha" Diaz

Maria G. “Mama Chacha” Diaz, 77, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, July 18, 2022.  Maria was born on July 14, 1945, in La Pryor, Zavala County, Texas, to the late Gabriel Garza and Maria (Garcia) Garza.

Mrs. Diaz worked as an assembly worker for Tyco Industries for over 10 years, and worked in healthcare for a couple years.  She thoroughly enjoyed photography, especially photographing sunsets, clouds and her grandkids. She was a member of Church on the Rock Dream Center Campus.

“Mama Chacha” leaves behind her cherished and loving family; one son, Gabriel Lara Diaz, III of San Antonio; one daughter, Tina Galarza and her husband David of Lubbock; two sisters, Ninfa Garza DeLeon of Somerset, Texas and Ida Garza Flores of Alice, Texas, and 6 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers:  Gabriel G. Garza, Jose G. Garza, Zaragoza G. Garza, Guadalupe Garza and Gilberto G. Garza; three sisters:  Petra G. Quijano, Irene G. Perez and Evangelina Garza.

A time of visitation and reflection for Mrs. Diaz will be on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 25, 2022, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel.  Ian Wilkinson will be the officiant for the services.  Memorial services and cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Maria’s memory be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or donors@stjude.org.
