Mary Pitner

May 30, 1931 — October 13, 2013

Lubbock

On Sunday evening, October 13th, 2013, Mary Pitner slipped from the arms of her earthly family into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior.  Mary lived a life filled with never-ending love and devotion for her husband, her sons and daughters-in-law and her two treasured grandsons.  Her lifelong commitment of service, teaching and caring for her family and others set a shining example for all to see of the love of Jesus Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Gary Pitner and wife, Linda of Amarillo, Jeff Pitner and wife, Christy and Christopher Pitner all of Lubbock; her sister, Billie Huddleston of Las Cruces, New Mexico and two grandchildren, Collin Pitner of Ft. Worth and Charles Pitner of Lubbock.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Evander Perry and Florence (Hicks) Alford and husband, Wayne Winston Pitner.

Born in Snyder, Texas on May 30, 1931, Mary’s early years were recalled in stories of life and laughter with family and friends in Midway and Camp Springs in spite of the hard times of the Great Depression.  She attended school in Hobbs, and was graduated valedictorian from Snyder High School in 1948.

Following her marriage in 1953 to the love of her life, Wayne Pitner, Mary and her family lived in Snyder, Pampa, Amarillo and Lubbock.  She had a career in the banking and savings and loan industries.  In addition to raising her family, Mary dedicated time to Methodist Church service organizations, teaching children’s Sunday School and singing in the choir.  Mary also enjoyed travelling on family vacations, cooking and the preparation of festive holiday meals.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, and attended the Homebuilders Sunday School Class.

Mary’s family will receive friends at Combest Family Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Wednesday, October 16, 2013.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at First United Methodist Church Bowman Chapel .  Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Snyder Cemetery in Snyder.  Memorials are suggested to the Ever Living Trust Fund at First United Methodist Church of Lubbock, or the Garrison Care Center of Lubbock.
