Maurine Jeanette (Lewis) Biggs, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a well-lived life on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Maurine was born in Ropesville, Texas on January 13, 1937 to Tom Lee and Lena (Tucker) Lewis, the third of six children. She spent her formative years in Ropesville and attended high school in Meadow, Texas. She married A.J. Biggs on July 31, 1954, and together they raised four children, Kerry, Karla, Rusty, and Renee.
Her chosen career field was within retirement communities where she initially began in sales, and worked her way up through the industry. When the time finally came for her own retirement in June of 2006, she held the position of Executive Director for Grand Court Lubbock. She shared her expertise far and wide by starting up retirement communities across the country. During this time, she traveled extensively and lived in several different states. It was a rewarding career that brought her joy and community through assisting the elderly with care and compassion.
Maurine loved to sing and play the piano and she would share her talents whenever she could, often for other retirees after she herself had retired. She found joy in life’s simple moments—listening to George Strait, watching old Westerns, and keeping up with her beloved Texas Rangers. She learned to play Scrabble with her mother, which led to an affinity for word games and crossword puzzles. Above all else, Maurine cherished her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and took great pride in their adventures, accomplishments, and milestones.
She is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Lena Lewis, her ex-husband A.J., her brothers Gene and Ovid Lewis, her sister Ramona (Lewis) Davis, and her grandson Riley Reding.
Maurine leaves to cherish her memory her children Kerry Biggs and wife, Beate, Karla (Biggs) Rankin and husband, Kevin, Rusty Biggs and wife, Shelly, and Renee (Biggs) Ross and husband Ken; grandchildren Joseph Lambert, Justin Heisterkamp, Randi Reding, Rachel Biggs; brother Leslie Lewis; sister Roseva (Lewis) Ford, and four great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel. Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, May 18, 2026 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Fountain Hills Assisted Living in Wolfforth, Texas, and Hospice of Lubbock.
