Melva Shinn, 54, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, November 2, 2023. Melva was born on August 1, 1969, in Lubbock, Texas to Virginia Vasquez–Villa and the late Jose Perales.
She graduated from Penn Foster High School on August 30, 2021, which was a very proud moment in her life.
She met Mike Shinn at Wells Fargo Bank, inside the United on 4th and Slide. They dated a year and then were married on August 19, 2016, in Lubbock, Texas. He was the love of her life.
Melva was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life. She enjoyed loving on her grandchildren every opportunity she was given and was a major part of their lives. She liked being crafty and making things for family and friends. Sewing, camping, and traveling were some of the things that made her happy. She was fortunate to travel to different countries, take many cruises, and drive to many places by RV. Her favorite place to travel to was Hawaii.
Melva was a strong, faithful, loving, and caring woman. She was a Christian whose faith could move mountains and was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church.
She left many to cherish and honor her memory including her husband, Mike: three sons: Ted M. Castro (Gabby Castro), Christopher A. Castro (Andrea Lopez), and Zachary Shinn. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Zakira Castro, Jayden Castro, Christina Castro, Everly Castro, and Christopher Jr. Castro. She also leaves behind 3 sisters: Melinda Gauna, Magdelena Garza, and Melida Flores. Also surviving Melva are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father who she dearly loved, Jose Jesus Perales; a niece, Irmalinda Cruz; and a brother-in-law, Mike Gauna.
Visitation for Melva will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 3pm to 7pm at the Venue on Broadway. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, beginning at 2pm at Southcrest Baptist Church, 3801 S. Loop 289 in Lubbock, with Leonard Navarre officiating.
