Michael Waller Diggs

Michael Waller Diggs, 79, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on September 17, 2025, after a long battle with mesothelioma.

Mike was born on November 1, 1945, to Henry Waller Diggs and Gracie Bell Hickey in San Antonio. After Mike graduated from Memphis High School in 1964, Mike went on to serve 14 years in the US Navy and served in the Vietnam War as a River Patrol Boat Sailor and Gunner’s Mate. After separating from the military, Mike studied Animal Sciences at Texas Tech University.

After graduating with a bachelor of science degree in animal science, he started his first job post college in Dimmit, Texas as a Cowboy, kickstarting a 31 year career in Agricultural Sciences that culminated in ownership of his own Millwright business.

In 1969, Mike met Susan Gatlin in Lubbock, TX and they were married on September 6, 1969, in Amarillo. Mike and Susan went on to have three children, Scott, Toby, and David.

In 2024, Mike retired and spent his time with family activities, reading, doing children’s sports and watching movies.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his loving wife, Susan; two sons: Scott Diggs and his wife Lisa of Snyder, TX and David Diggs and his wife Erika of Canyon Lake, TX; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Toby Walker Diggs.

Memorial services and interment will be held at 10:45 AM on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Mike’s memory, be made to veteran’s advocacy and assistance group(s) of your choice.
