Michael "M O" Overland, Sr.

Michael “M O” Overland, Sr., 79, of Lubbock, passed away on Sunday afternoon, January 18, 2026. Michael was born on August 28, 1946, in Crookston, Polk County, MN, to the late Gordon Leslie Overland and Delma Joyce (Bearden) Overland.

He attended Beulah High School and graduated with his senior class of 1965. Following graduation from high school, he joined the United States Navy for four years, after which he received an honorable discharge.

He met the love of his life, Robin Eckfield, and they were united in marriage on August 14, 1982, in Lubbock, Texas.

Following his service in the United States Navy, Michael joined the Lubbock Police Department in 1970. For the first ten years in the Lubbock Police Department he worked the streets of Lubbock. During this time, he went to college and worked toward his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, which he received in 1975 from Wayland Baptist University. During the last 25 years with the Department, he worked as a Corporal in the Detective Division where he worked in financial crimes. He retired in 2005 from the Lubbock Police Department after 35 years of service.

Michael loved to do anything mechanical, played guitar in a band, going fishing and enjoyed sports. He played football in high school, and his favorite teams were the Cowboys and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. He was raised in the Baptist faith.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Robin of Lubbock; two daughters: Kimberly Rauls and husband James of Lubbock, and Becky Overland and her partner Craig White of Sioux Falls, SD; one son, Michael Overland, Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Keith Overland and wife Diana of Garden City, Kansas; one sister, Elaine Overland-Black of Lubbock; five grandchildren: Kacie Overland, Sayde Rauls, Riley White, Morgan Overland and Hannah Overland; three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Overland.

No services are planned and inurnment of cremains will take place later when the West Texas Veterans Cemetery opens in Lubbock. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
