Nancy Morrow Edwards

Nancy Morrow Edwards, 87, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, August 30, 2023.  She was born on February 3, 1936, in Waco, Texas, to the late Carl Houston Morrow and Nelle (Tillery) Morrow.

Nancy moved to Littlefield when she was in elementary school and attended Littlefield High School, where she was a drum majorette with the marching band, an avid player on the women's basketball team, and Valedictorian of her 1954 class.  She went on to Texas Tech University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.  After college, she married Jim Edwards, and they moved to Houston, where Nancy worked for Humble Oil Company and supported Jim through law school. She was a loyal wife, a devoted mother, and a homemaker. Nancy and Jim were married for 26 years and raised their three children together.

Nancy found her faith home in her beloved First United Methodist Church. She joined the church while in college at Texas Tech and was a steadfast member until her death. She sang in the choir for 30 years. She would go on to meet the love of her life, Larry Hagood, in the Singles Alive group at First United Methodist in 1992. Together, they shared the adventures of a lifetime which included social events, dancing, trips all over the world, Lady Raider basketball, Men’s basketball, and Texas Tech football. They cared for each other through sickness and health, until Larry preceded her in death in May of 2022.

In October 2013, she moved to independent living at Carillon to be with Larry. Grammy loved her grandkids and attended as many of their ball games and theater productions as she could. In addition to rich desserts and watching the Lady Raiders go on to victory, Nancy enjoyed bridge and was competitive whenever there was a card or board game to be played.  She loved to collect nutcrackers and was an avid reader.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include one daughter, Amy McFadden and her husband Elliott; one son, Karl Edwards and his wife Stephanie; daughter-in-law, Teri Edwards; bonus children:  Walt Hagood and his wife Glinda, Liz Lewark and her husband Dayton, Suzanne Hagood, Denise Barry and her husband Doug, and Deborah DeBerry and her husband Dale; eight grandchildren:  Mason Hunter, McKenna Edwards, Madden Edwards, Salem McFadden, Clara McFadden, Mat Edwards, Tyler Shaw and Stephen Edwards; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her eldest son, Randy Edwards; her brother, Lee H. Morrow; and the love of her life, Larry Hagood.

A time of reflection and visitation will be held for Nancy from 4 PM to 6 PM on Monday, September 4, 2023, in the Venue on Broadway of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2202 Broadway.  Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 1411 Broadway.  Dr. Shera Atkinson will be the officiant, assisted by Dr. Todd Salzwedal. Final rites and interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
