Nancy Weatherman Hartsfield, a beloved educator, grandmother, and fifth generation native of the West Texas plains, passed from this world on April 20, 2026. Born on September 22, 1941, in Abilene , Texas, Nancy carried the values of her heritage and the warmth of her hometown throughout her life.
She was born to Lawrence and Frances (Green) Weatherman and grew up in Rotan, where she later met and married Chester Hartsfield on June 5, 1959. The couple eventually settled in Lubbock, where Nancy resided for most of her life, building a legacy of family devotion and Christian faith.
A proud alumna of Texas Tech University, Nancy dedicated many years to shaping young minds as a teacher at Roosevelt ISD. Beyond the classroom, she found peace in the simple joys of life—reading, gardening, drawing, and exploring her deep family history. She was particularly drawn to her western heritage. She was a gifted writer and wrote many beautiful short stories. Her greatest joy, however, was found in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester; her brother, Larry Weatherman; her sister, Susan Martinez, and Susan's husband, Robert X Martinez ; and her great-niece, Kera Martin.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy Boden and husband Greg, and Carla Baker, both of Lubbock. Her memory will be forever cherished by her six grandchildren— Jennifer Peiser and husband Zach, Angela Devore and husband Stephen, Jessica Bryan, Sarah Boden, Lisa Boden and Nicholas Baker. Great Grandchildren Danielle, Noah, Gavin, Averie, Kaden, Vincent, Everett, Truitt, Zander, and Henry. Also many nieces and nephews.
Services, hosted by the family, will be held at the Ransom Canyon Chapel at 31 E Brookhollow Ransom Canyon on Saturday, May 2nd at 1:30pm.
