In Loving Memory of Naomi Hill
December 5, 1987- July 8, 2025
Naomi Hill passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2025, following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Lubbock, Texas to Glenn and Valerie Hill, Naomi was small but mighty and soon began to show an independent spirit that shaped her personality, her beliefs, and her friendships.
As she grew, she left an indelible mark on everyone she met. She often identified with the misfits and outsiders and was known for standing up to bullies and speaking her mind. She could be extremely stubborn and defiant, so much so that a family catch phrase for her was "Nomi don't do that." All the time she was also formed a close bond with her older brother, Ian, and was included in many activities with his friends. This resulted in a love of video games and board games that they continued to share as adults. She was always excited about organizing a Dungeons and Dragons event with her friends or gathering with them to watch old horror movies.
Her love of many different films reflected her taste for sci-fi, fantasy, dark humor and sarcasm. She grew up in a family that loved The Lord of the Rings and made sure to attend every film, even for a birthday celebration when she and her friends all went to the Fellowship of the Rings in costume. The Great Lebowski was probably her favorite film and influenced her to become a proud minister of The Church of the Dude. She officiated several weddings in this capacity, including that of her own brother, Ian, to Clio Sleator in May 2024, a moment that was unique, meaningful, and filled with love and laughter.
At an early age Naomi showed an affinity for art that would help shape her world view. After earning her bachelors in Fine Arts at Tech, she eventually found her calling in photography and graphic design. She worked for the Buddy Holly Center and Silent Wings Museum, then became a freelance consultant for several local artists, assisting them by photographing their artwork, designing websites and flyers, cataloging their body of works, and helping set up art shows and exhibits. Her eye for detail and her creativity and finesse were always appreciated. At the same time, she was also entering art shows and competitions with her photography and drawings, often winning awards, including Best in Show in 2024 at the Buddy Holly Center's national Illuminance Photography show.
Naomi was a joy to others, kind, helpful, and empathetic, but she struggled with depression and anxiety and finally reached out for help, finding a relatable therapist who guided her through the last five years of her life. Her support system was also strong, and she surrounded herself with caring friends who understood both her light and dark side, as well as her sense of the absurd and eccentric.
Naomi is survived by her loving parents, Glenn and Valerie Hill; her beloved brother, Ian Hill, and his wife Clio Sleator; her aunts and uncles, Carol and Gordon Yeatts, Stephanie Komkov, Andrea Komkov and Tina Cheney, Leon and Rebecca Komkov, and Michael Komkov. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Eloise "Weezie" Hill, and Gene Hill, as well as Vadim and Joyce Komkov, and her aunt, Sherly Rowe.
A celebration of Naomi's life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 4:00pm at the Combest Funeral Home Venue on Broadway. All are welcome to share stories, laugh, and enjoy the art that Naomi gave to the world.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Haven (or an animal rescue of choice), or a cancer research organization such as The Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (ORCA)
