Neomia Jean Locke

Neomia Jean Locke, 91 years young of Lubbock, and beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Saturday morning, April 20, 2024.  She was born Neomia Jean Goodnight on March 19, 1933, to Raymond Gail Goodnight and Ida Mae (Hill) Goodnight in Ninnekah, Grady County, Oklahoma.

Jean was a compassionate, loving, giving and faithful woman who was a rock for her family, and firm believer in the Lord.  She was a bright beacon of light on the darkest night, and she will be dearly missed by all those who loved her.  She loved to sew, make baby blankets and even made most of her children’s clothes.  A wonderful cook, she was known for her potato salad, peach cobbler, fried potatoes and beans.

Jean retired from Frito Lay in 2000, where she packed Frito’s for over 25 years.  She brought home lots of goodies for everyone.  Jean loved her children and her grandbabies immensely.   She often said to her children, “When I die, please do not cry for me, for I am whole again.  Just smile and remember all the good times we had.”

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmey and Dora Locke of Lubbock; two daughters:  Gertrude Elaine Cross and Sheila Jean Locke of Lubbock; one brother, Raymond “Junior” Goodnight of Somerville; six grandchildren:  Adam Locke and wife Jamie of Crosby, Neomia Shanna Napper of Hamlin, Kimberly Lynette Long of Amarillo, Jeremiah Long and wife Andrea of Trinidad, Colorado, Amanda Jean Cisneros and husband Jonathan LaMadrid of Weatherford, and Travis Cisneros and wife Prula of Coleman.  Along with fourteen great-grandchildren, a slew of nieces and nephews, and many other members of the extended family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Ida Goodnight; her oldest sister, Gertrude Gouge; second oldest sister, Margarette Galyon; third oldest sister, Roberta Nichols; two brothers:  Duane Goodnight, and baby brother Robert “Sonny” Goodnight; a son-in-law, Dennis O’del Cross and a great-grandson, Conner Ray LaMadrid.

A visitation for Jean will be from 11 AM to 8 PM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in the Oak Crest Suite of Combest Family Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Combest Family Memorial Chapel with Jimmey Locke officiating.  Final rites and interment will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.

The pallbearers will be her grandsons:   Adam Locke and Travis Cisneros; great-grandsons:  Cameron Leonardo Domagala Private First Class-E3 and Chaz Long, Mason Napper and Brenton Napper; great-nephews:   R. J. Manns, Casey Goodnight.  Honorary pallbearers will be great nephews: Tyler Shultz, Nolan Shultz, B. J. Conner and Wayland Hohertz.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like people to donate to Cook’s Children’s Hospital or to the Ronald McDonald House, both in Ft. Worth, Texas, as these two organizations are dear to the heart of this family.
