Olen Leroy Perkins, 80, of Lubbock passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 in Lubbock.

Leroy was born on September 1, 1942 in Coleman, Texas and raised in Coleman.  He graduated from Abilene Christian College with a bachelor’s degree in Education.  He married the love of his life, Sandra Marie Stephens on February 5, 1965 in Snyder, Texas.  He was a teacher for 42 years. He taught his first year in Tolar, Texas and later moved to Lubbock, where he taught at Wheatley and Bowie Elementary. After moving to Lubbock, he drove a taxi to make extra money and was very familiar with the city.  His wife, Sandra, was also a teacher, which enabled them to enjoy their profession together.  Leroy also owned a plaster craft business that he operated after school.  He was a veracious and avid reader of books, especially science, science fiction, and the Bible and loved to learn.  He enjoyed traveling across the United States with his wife by car.  He loved to play pool with his son, Scott, during his college years, watch Texas Tech sports, and enjoyed telling Dad jokes.  He was a Godly man with great character, was compassionate and gentle, and had old fashion manners.  He loved his family and his wife, whom he enjoyed holding hands with and going on walks.  He was a faithful member of South Plains Church of Christ, where he had been an Elder and had taught Sunday School class.  He also taught a Bible class at a local nursing home in Lubbock.

Leroy is survived by his daughter, Lori Perkins of Lubbock, son, Scott Perkins and wife Christy, of Frisco, daughter, Lana Perkins and husband Michael, of Frisco, six grandchildren, Rachel Perkins-Wells and husband Blake, Ian Perkins, Nathan Perkins and wife Lexie, David Perkins, Keygan Perkins, and Josh Perkins.  He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra, on June 10, 2020, his parents, and three brothers, Carroll Perkins, Floyd Perkins, and Terry Perkins.
