Joyce Gill

Joyce Gill, 82 of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 12, 2025. Joyce was born on January 10, 1943, in Levelland, Hockley County, Texas, to the late William Lavurne Warren and Naomi (Cole) Warren.

Joyce was an infant when the young family was moved to San Leandro, CA for her father to work in the shipyards during WWII. They lived in California until 1950 before moving back to Texas. Joyce went to elementary school in Pettit, Texas. She loved to play bride and groom, go on trips and play cards with her family. She learned to cook and other farming duties while living on the farm in Pettit. She loved reading the bible and was baptized at age twelve.

She finished high school in Whiteface, Texas. Following graduation from high school, she furthered her education by attending South Plains College for two years and studying cosmetology. She later graduated from Jessie Lee Beauty School.

Joyce met the love of her life, James Logan Gill, and they were united in marriage on July 22, 1962, in Levelland, Texas. Soon after they welcomed their first of three children, Regina Eyvonne on November 7, 1963. Michael William joined the family on April 28, 1966, and finally Russell Wendell blessed them on May 29, 1967. Along with being a homemaker, which included making her children’s clothing, she also worked as a beautician and a cook at her parent’s restaurant, the Ranch Burger. Her artist skills were enhanced as she worked for Olan Mills painting portraits. She learned the love of oil and charcoal painting as well during this time.

In 1979 the family moved to Anchor Point, Alaska, where she learned how to survive the cold, harsh winters of Alaska. She volunteered at the Anchor Point Fire and Ambulance Service as an EMT. Living in Anchor Point for 22 years, she had a tremendous influence on everyone she met with her joy, love, and encouragement. Her love of people and serving others came through as she was a caregiver to many, taught pre-school bible classes, but also was involved in the youth group where they worshipped, Anchor Point Church of Christ. Her home was always open to everyone she knew as she hosted countless parties and events honoring friends and family, young and old alike.

In 2000, she moved back to Lubbock after the passing of her husband James Logan on March 15, 1996. She continued to be a source of love and encouragement to those around her through her love of quilting, sewing, scrapbooking, and card making. She had a “quiet” ministry of making and writing cards to those in the military along with her sister Betha. She was a member of Sunset Church of Christ for many years where her generosity and contagious smile brightened everyone she came in contact with. Her love for others was evident as she was caregiver to many in her own home year after year. Precious to her heart was her immediate family along with many extended family members. She spent tremendous hours collecting, organizing and documenting her family’s genealogies in gorgeous albums.

Those left to cherish and honor her memories include her children: Regina Gomez of Lubbock, Michael Gill of Lubbock and Russell Gill of Lubbock. Joyce also leaves behind three sisters: Melba Ray of Austin, Betha Chesser of Lubbock and Patricia McNeil of Yakima, Washington. She loved her two grandchildren: Shandi Moralez and husband Rubin, and Danny Gomez, as well as her four great-grandchildren: Logan and Ziyah Moralez and Kadyn and Nuriah Gomez. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Leif Herrick, great granddaughter Kairi Gomez and sister Glenda Fariss.
