Oralia Velasquez, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, peacefully departed from this world on June 1, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories. Born on September 30, 1940, in the small town of Encinal, Texas, she was the epitome of grace and strength, leaving an indelible mark upon all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Beyond her professional life, Oralia embodied a spirit of joy and vivacity that drew people towards her. Her love for family shone brightly through her many hobbies and interests, which included enjoying the company of her loved ones.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Sam Velasquez, married to Norma; Sally Hernandez, married to Alex; and Sandy Velasquez. Her devotion as a grandmother was evident in her pride for her grandchildren: Alessandra Allen, married to Christian; Samantha Berumen, married to Andrew; Alex Hernandez Jr., married to Sabrina; Adriana Welch, married to Keyera; Nicole Velasquez and significant other Danny Medrano; and Danielle Valdez. Additionally, she was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, whose laughter and innocence lit up her life. Oralia’s sister, Hilda Limon, alongside her husband Ben, also mourns the loss of such a vibrant and caring spirit.
She is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband Simon Velasquez and her devoted parents, Valentin Islas Sr. and Natalia Islas, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.
The community is invited to celebrate Oralia's life with scheduled services. A viewing will be held on June 4, 2025, at Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be held on June 5, 2025, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church at 10:00 AM, followed by interment at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery commencing at 12:00 PM.
