Lubbock

Peggy Jane Pierce, a beloved mom, daughter and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Lubbock at the age of 62. Born on March 4, 1963, in El Paso to Eldon and Frances (Tidwell) McCutcheon. A proud graduate of Dell City High School, where she was honored as Valedictorian, Peggy pursued her academic passions further at Sul Ross University, ultimately becoming an English teacher at Grandfalls-Royalty Independent School District. She taught there for five years before putting her career on hold to care for her mother-in-law and begin working with her husband in the family business.

Peggy was not merely an educator; she was a storyteller at heart, which was evident with more than 300 Christmas movies that she cherished to watch year after year. Her love for Christmas would begin as early as October. Peggy found joy in travel, spending each summer exploring the United States and beyond. Over eight years, she and her family traveled to all 50 states and Capitals, including six Canadian provinces and Mexico. In 2007, following the passing of her beloved husband, Otho Lee Pierce, in 2006, Peggy moved to Lubbock to be closer to her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Charity Travis and husband Adam, Iris Whalin and husband David, and James Pierce, all of Lubbock; cherished grandchildren: Gavin, Evelyn, and Devin; mother, Frances McCutcheon-Garcia, and husband Gil of Lubbock; siblings: Malcolm McCutcheon and wife Susan of Anacortes, Washington, and Crystal Velasquez and husband Charles of Midland; as well as extended family and friends.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Eldon McCutcheon, in 2016 and husband, Otho Lee Pierce, in 2006.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of your choice.
