Phyllis Ann Cross was born June 23, 1941, in Paducah, Texas, to David Cecil Garvin and Amma Lea Lambert.
She married Billy Joe Cross on October 6, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas, and together they built a life rooted in love and family in Plainview, where they raised their children.
Phyllis graduated from Lubbock High School in 1959 and went on to get her Masters Degree in Education at Wayland Baptist University. She devoted many years to education as an 8th grade math teacher at Estacado Junior High School. Phyllis and Billy Joe found joy in life's simple pleasures-going out to eat, watching movies, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was known for the butterflies she wore in her hair, a signature that reflected her gentle spirit. Though often complimented on them, it was her kindness, patience, and unwavering faith that truly made her shine. Through every season of life, her love and trust in the Lord never wavered.
Phyllis will be remembered as the world’s best mom, deeply loved and never forgotten, as well as a devoted grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Cross; her son, Ben Allen Cross; and her brothers, Phillip Garvin, Paul David Garvin; and one sister Paula Marie (Garvin) Boothe, Simpkins. She is survived by her sister, Pam White and husband Ronnie White; her sons, Brad Cross and Brent Cross; her grandchildren, Bridget Cross, Krista Proctor and husband Kevin Proctor, Kendra Cross, and Blake Cross; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11:00 am at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway Lubbock, TX 79401.
