Raymond Earl Peek, a devoted family man, respected community servant, and seasoned professional, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas. Born on October 25, 1935, in Lubbock, Raymond's life was marked by a remarkable blend of commitment to family, faith, and a strong work ethic.
A graduate of Frenship High School, Class of 1954, Raymond answered the call to serve his country shortly after graduation by joining the United States Navy. He honorably served for four years, achieving the rank of AT2, or Second-Class Petty Officer and serving in the Navy Reserves for 2 more years. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career in retail management. Over 32 years, at several stores, starting with JCPenney's for four and a half years, then contributing eighteen years at TG&Y Stores, and concluding his retail journey with a decade at Winn's Variety. After retiring from retail management, Raymond dedicated twenty years to assisting others as a handyman, utilizing his skills to help neighbors with home projects and even taking on remodeling jobs in several homes.
Raymond's dedication extended far beyond his professional life. A kind, gracious, and wise man, he was known for his quick wit, generous spirit, and determined nature-qualities that left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His patience and stubbornness, always in a positive sense, made him a stalwart figure in his family and community. Playing games of 42, WaHoo, and Scrabble, woodworking, watching old western films, and listening to classic country music were cherished pastimes that brought him joy throughout his life.
His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his identity. For 25 years, Raymond served faithfully as a Deacon at the Milwaukee Avenue Church of Christ in Lubbock. His love for the church and its members was evident in his warm greetings and ever-present smile. As a pillar of his faith community, he found great fulfillment in service and fellowship.
Among his proudest accomplishments was marrying Phyllis Diana Moseley on December 26, 1958, in Lubbock. Their lifelong partnership was a source of strength and happiness. Raymond treasured their three daughters-Pam Parsley (and her husband Herman Cortez), Teresa McHam, and Karen Garner (and her husband Doug). He was a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren and a great-grandfather to fourteen, sharing with them the wisdom and determination forged through years of experience and love.
Raymond's legacy is deeply enriched by his family, including his beloved wife Diana; daughters Pam, Teresa, and Karen; sisters Wanda Tomlin (and her husband Tommy) and Julia Ray; as well as a circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry on his example of kindness and perseverance. He was preceded in death by his parents Early Golden Peek and Jewel Lethy Jacobs, as well as siblings Jerry Dale Peek, Earlene Peek Box Clark, Gladys Dougherty, and Geraldine Hall.
Known for sharing laughter and creating joyful memories, Raymond's presence brightened the lives of his family, friends, and community. His determination served as a guiding example, inspiring those who followed to live with integrity and purpose.
A visitation to honor and remember Raymond will be held on June 3, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock, located at 2210 Broadway Street. Funeral services will take place on June 4, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Milwaukee Avenue Church of Christ, 3814 Milwaukee Avenue, Lubbock, Texas.
Raymond Earl Peek's life was a testament to dedication, warmth, and steadfast love. He leaves behind a rich heritage of commitment to family, faith, and community that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
