Reta Settlemire

June 8, 1944 — May 20, 2026

San Angelo, formerly of Lubbock

Reta Fern Settlemire, whose life was a tapestry woven with love, dedication, and creativity, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 in San Angelo. Born to Barnie and Evelyn (Sanders) Jones on June 8, 1944 in Post, Reta graduated from Southland High School. She furthered her education at Draughn’s Business College, equipping herself with skills that would serve her throughout her early days. However, it was after her marriage to Norman Settlemire that she gracefully embraced the vital role of homemaker, devoting herself to the nurturing of her family and the creating of a warm, loving home.

Reta’s life was rich with passions and talents that brought joy not only to herself but to all who were fortunate to know her. She was an accomplished seamstress whose hands crafted beauty with needle and thread. She was a devoted reader of history, a talented crafter, enjoyed the pleasure of birdwatching, and delighted in passing down wisdom and tradition, teaching her daughters and grandchildren her cherished art of "making" - consisting of cooking, sewing and baking.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Amy Finch and husband Mark of San Angelo, and Becky Settlemire of Lubbock; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Settlemire, who passed in 2015, as well as her daughter, Reta Carol DeLeon, and sister, Betty Oneita Gunn.
