Rickey "Rick" Eugene Hipp

Rickey “Rick” Eugene Hipp, of Lubbock, Texas, was born on November 12, 1951, and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 15, 2025, at the age of 73.

Rick was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, though his heart was always drawn to the mountains and hill country, where he found peace and joy. He graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock and went on to build a career in carpentry and construction. Later, he owned and operated his own landscaping business until his health no longer allowed him to work. A man of deep Christian faith, Rick carried a steadfast love for Jesus Christ throughout his life.

It was in Lubbock that Rick met his beloved wife, Dixie. Shortly after, they moved to Ruidoso, New Mexico fulfilling their dream of living in the mountains. Together, they spent 17 beautiful years, always dreaming of their next adventure and cherishing the life and family they built together. They loved spending time surrounded by wildlife—watching elk, deer, and turkeys roam nearby, but most especially the wild mustangs who grew to trust them enough to be fed directly from Rick and Dixie’s hands.

Rick’s greatest joys were found outdoors and in caring for animals. Whether with his horses, dogs, or, most recently, his longhorns, he approached every part of life with dedication and compassion. He was a hard worker, a dreamer with a big heart, and someone who always wanted the best for others. If he had the means to help, he never hesitated to do so.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory include: his wife, Dixie; his three children, Brandi Harrington, Richard Hipp, and Amanda Gibbs and their spouses; his 3 stepsons, Scotty Tillman, Shiloh Tillman, and Syrel Tillman and their wives; his sister, Vicki Branum and her husband; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Hipp; his father, Eugene Briggs; and his brother, Rusty Hipp.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Combest Family Funeral Home, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas, 79401, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Final rites and interment will be held afterwards at Terrace Cemetery in Post, Texas under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.
