Ricky Clem

Ricky Clem, 67, of Lubbock and formerly of New Home, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.  Ricky was born on September 23, 1956, in Lubbock, to Bobby D. Clem and the late Jamie (Evans) Clem.

Ricky attended New Home schools and graduated with his senior class in 1975, after which he attended South Plains College.  In high school, he played football and basketball and was involved in FFA, showing pigs.

Ricky met the love of his life, Lessia Clary, and they were united in marriage on July 10, 1976, at the First Baptist Church in Wilson.  Out of this union, they were blessed with a daughter, Amy.

Growing up and living in New Home most of his life, Ricky was a cotton farmer for many years before retiring in 2015.   He loved to fish, go to the lake and ski.  He was gifted in that he wrote poetry, and he hosted a weekly radio broadcast, The Cotton Pickin Truth Show, on KFYO for several years.

His family knows him as witty, very giving, full of knowledge and was heavily involved in politics and made his opinion known.  He lived life to its fullest, loved kids, his nieces and nephews, and fought for what he believed in, his family and his country.  He was a member of New Home Baptist Church all his life. 

Those left behind to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Lessia of Lubbock; one daughter, Amy Deatherage and her husband Blayne of Lubbock; one brother, Dale Clem of New Home and one sister, Judi Fillingim and husband Andy of New Home; his father, Bobby D. Clem of New Home; two grandchildren, Nevaeh and Natalie Deatherage of Lubbock.  Ricky was preceded in death by his mother on February 12, 2019.

A visitation for Ricky will be held from 5 PM to 7 PM on Monday, May 13, 2024, in the Combest Family Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock, 2210 Broadway.  Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at New Home Baptist Church in New Home.  Reverend L. J. Wright will be the officiant, assisted by Bennie Pope, a friend of Ricky’s.   Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.

Pallbearers will be Blayne Deatherage, Ross Fillingim, Michael Tabor, Evan Clem, Alex Redvelski and Roy Flores.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donating in Ricky’s memory to the Building Fund at New Home Baptist Church, 128 N. 4th Street, New Home, TX 79383.
