Bob moved with his family to Amarillo when he was a young boy and grew up there. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963. At the young age of 14, he started working to help support his family. He worked as an ambulance driver for the original Amarillo Ambulance Service before working as a terminal manager in the trucking industry.
