Rodney Dean Ayers

February 20, 1968 — May 13, 2026

Lubbock, Texas

Rodney D. Ayers, 58, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2026, at Covenant Medical Center. Born on February 20, 1968, in Kansas City, Missouri, Rodney was the son of Paul and Ada (Bowman) Ayers.

A graduate of Grain Valley High School in 1986, Rodney went on to earn his degree from Central Missouri State University in 1991. He devoted 28 years of dedicated service to AT&T, working in Kansas City, St. Louis, and ultimately Lubbock, before retiring in 2021.

Rodney's passions were many: he found joy in basketball, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, exploring new places through travel, and sharing his love with his dogs. A talented photographer, he treasured capturing the spirit of local six-man football games through his lens.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents and leaves behind a family who will dearly miss him: his brother Kenton Ayers and wife Kellie of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his sister Janet Ayers of Grain Valley, Missouri; close friend Alan Michels of Lubbock; nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog Speedy.

Family and friends are invited to honor Rodney’s memory at a memorial visitation on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Combest Family Funeral Home.  The family will have a private service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org.

Rodney’s warmth, dedication, and passions will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
