Ronnie Browning was born on October 13, 1934, in Tahoka, Texas, to Len Matson Browning and Claretta Harter. He attended Draw School until it was consolidated with Tahoka. Ronnie went into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country for two years.
After his service, Ronnie pursued higher education and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree of Business Administration. He began his farming career in 1960, dedicating many years to the land he loved. In addition to farming, Ronnie worked for the U.S. Post Office in Brownfield for six years before joining the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he served faithfully for 19 years until his retirement in 2006.
Ronnie found his greatest joy in the Lord and spending time with his grandchildren, taking them on adventures and creating lasting memories. He had a love for reading and gardening, and his sense of humor made him a joy to be around. Ronnie always looked forward to Sunday family dinners, where laughter, stories, and togetherness filled the table. While Ronnie was always fun and lighthearted, he took finances very seriously, something his family often admired and teased him about.
Ronnie is survived by his loving wife, Donna Browning; brothers, Jerry Browning and Tyrone (Lana) Browning; sister, Rocky Hamm; stepdaughter, Stephanie (Jim Bob) Hardy; and five grandchildren, Shane, Chris, Eric, Briton, and D’nae.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Len and Claretta Browning, and his beloved son, Rex Mitchell “Mitch” Browning, brother, Michael Browning, and sister-in-law, Linda Browning.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
