Rory was born on November 1st. 1962, in Tulia, TX. He grew up in Claytonville and was a member of Claytonville First Baptist Church. He loved to play football with the neighborhood kids, ride dirt bikes, & swim in the Tail Water pit. as he grew older he liked racing his truck. Rory also helped his father farm and partnered with him for custom farming, harvesting crops throughout their community.
He went to school at Kress Elementary and graduated from Kress high school in 1981, where he lettered in football and basketball for his entire high school career. He participated in industrial art competitions. He went to regional and state every single year. In 1980 he won the pretigous, outstanding, craftmanship award in Cabinatry, at the state competition in Waco, TX.
Rory lived most of his life in the south plains of texas , with the exception of when he moved to california , where he built streets and fought fires as a volunteer fire fighter. He worked for Granite Construction creating parking lots for businesses and contracting with the city of Lubbock to assist with street infrastructure as Lubbock grew. He retired from Lubbock county in December of 2025 where he served as an assistant foreman. He supervised crews and trained new hires on the road grader. He was often asked to use his exceptional skills to resolve the most difficult of projects; To keep the public safe.
Rory had many hobbies to include watching and attending Nascar races and collecting die-cast Nascar cars and other memoriabelia. He was a loyal Texas Longhorn fan and an even more loyal friend. When he wasn't watching the Longhorns, he was in the garage listening to music, visiting with his neighbors who had become friends. He loved using his hands and building things. He's made several pieces of beautiful memories over his life. He loved to be outside, gardening and sharing the spoils with those around him. And when he wasn't gardening Rory would hold Zoey, his "baby girl" sitting next to his wife and best friend, Kayleen, watching the backyard cats play, enjoying nature. It was his favorite place to be.
Rory was a helpful soul and a faithful donor to United Way. He believed in helping those who didn't have much.
Rory often shared words of wisdom with those he cared for. He was always telling the others to "give it to the man upstairs" and to "never give up." He was a positive influence for others.
Rory was proceeded by his parents, Louie Wayne & JoAnn Bevill, sister; Camille Bevill Ward; Father in law, Jim Harris; Brother in law, Kerry Harris; & step son, Christopher Kaiser.
Rory is survived by, his wife Kayleen and his mother in law Kay Harris as well as, his four children; Megan Gauge & husband, Christopher; Kelsey Gentry & husband Skeeter; Rory James Bevill & Tori Jo Bevill.
Rory was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren; Payton Kaiser, Emerson Gauge, Blade & Blake Gentry whom he cherished very much.
Rory will be fondly remebered and loved by many to include his brother in law, Johnny Keith Ward; His nephew, Robert Ward and his niece Jordan Ward, as well as neices Jeanie and Kambry Harris.
With the assistance of Hospice of South Plains, we were able to honor Rory's final wishes and allow him to be home for a private and peaceful passing. Rory went to be with the Lord on June 23, 2026. He was and will always be loved and remembered by many across Texas and many other places.
The Celebration of Life for Rory will be on Monday, July 20, 2026. at 2 PM at The Connect Church, 11th and Milwaukee. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
