Sharon Kay Hawkins, 75, of Lubbock, passed away Sunday evening, March 29, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 6, 1950, in Hamlin, Jones County, Texas, to the late Dr. Elmer John Hawkins and Gabie May (Smallwood) Hawkins.
She attended high school in Hamlin and graduated with the senior class of 1968. She furthered her education by attending Texas Tech University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition in 1972. She attended Radiology Technician school at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, graduating in 1979. She worked as a Radiology Technician for over 32 years at Covenant Medical Center, University Medical Center and as a traveling radiology technician all over the country, before retiring in 2012. She also worked for the United States Public Health Services.
Sharon loved to knit, was an avid Jeopardy fan, and loved to watch Christmas Hallmark channel movies as well as the Mystery Channel. She also loved going to Ruidoso as much as she possibly could. She was a member of Lakeridge Methodist Church.
Those left to honor and cherish her memory include a son, Eric Gustafson and wife Alice of Lubbock; a daughter, Zoe McCord and husband James of Lubbock; a sister, Louann Trull of Abilene; a brother, Jim Hawkins and wife Beejay of Abilene; four grandchildren: J. D. McCord, III, A. J. Newell, Maegan McCord and Kathleen Gustafson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jonathan Hawkins.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Transformation Church, 7202 Woodrow Road, Lubbock, TX 79423. Pastor Gary Delay will be the officiant. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
All flowers being sent to the service should be delivered directly to the church on the day of the service and not to the funeral home.
