Shelly Jo Harris

Shelly Jo Harris (65) passed away peacefully at home on August 31st, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born on July 12,1960 in Atlantic, IA.

Shelly graduated from Atlantic High School and earned her Registered Nurse (RN) license in 1984. Shelly married Thomas Harris on November 24, 1978. After moving to Texas in 1984, she spent her career as an RN caring for pediatric patients, laboring moms, and developing one of the first pediatric home health agencies in Lubbock. In 2024, Shelly retired from a 40-year nursing career that impacted countless lives and families.

Shelly was an exceptional mom and grammie, affectionate and so fun. An intelligent woman with many hobbies, she enjoyed tennis, reading, quilting, sewing, and watching sports with her family. Whether sewing the most amazing Halloween costumes for her grandkids, making scrub caps for fellow nurses, or putting together a quilt for a friend or a patient’s new baby, quilting is just one way she showed her love. Her legacy lives on through her creations. She made things feel special, always adding her personal touch of fun and care to every moment.

She is preceded in death by her parents Sharon and Ron Johnson; father Larry Steffens; and brother Brian Steffens. She is survived by her husband Thomas Harris; daughter Katie Roller and husband Matt Roller; daughter Sarah Harris and wife Alexa Galle; and granddaughters Mabel and Morgan Roller.
