Shirley Pauline Hawes, 86, of Lubbock, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. Shirley was born on December 4, 1935, in Owens, Brown County, Texas to the late Truman McMurry and Wenona (Renfroe) McMurry.
Shirley graduated from Odessa High School in 1953. She married Arthur Hawes on July 15, 1995, in Littlefield, Texas. Shirley worked in retail sales most of her life, before retiring in 2000. She enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, playing bridge and gardening, of which she was known to have a green thumb. Shirley grew up in the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur; three daughters, Rhonda Odom of Lubbock, Leisa Hutcheson of Lubbock and Martha Ellerbrook of Lubbock; two step-daughters, Terri Miller and Tracie Lyman, both of Ormond Beach, Florida; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ron Odom, and three sisters.
No visitation for Shirley is scheduled, and graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, February 7, 2022 in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Meals on Wheels, 2304 34th St, Lubbock, TX 79411, or South Plains Food Bank, 5605 M.L.K. Jr Blvd, Lubbock, TX 79404.
