Steven Dan Hemmeline passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. He was met at Heaven’s Gate by his son, Josh, and they exchanged big, long hugs and several silly jokes.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Beni; his sister, Linda; his daughter, Michelle; his daughter-in-law, Rose, and ten grandchildren: Vanessa, Stephanie, Ben, Bailie, Emma, Georgia, Ricky, Ezra, Chloe, and Lillian. Some of Steve’s greatest joys in his later years came from his five great grandchildren: Brennon, Averin, Ace, Benji, and Madilynn. Steve is also survived by numerous in-laws, a niece, nephews and cousins.
Steve was born in Lubbock on April 11. 1952, and was the son of Irvin Wylder Hemmeline and Stella Mae Richardson. Steve married Beni Maccabe in San Antonio on March 14, 1981. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Joshua Wylder Hemmeline, who died in 2011. Steve retired as an operations manager at Lubbock International Airport after over 25 years of service.
For several years, Steve served as a Sunday evening disk jockey on KDAV radio station spinning tunes including country and western, jazz, easy listening, the 50’s/60’s and 70’s rock, and occasional Gospel music. He had a soothing voice and engaged listeners all over the USA, Canada, Australia and Europe.
Everyone who knew Steve appreciated his pleasant demeanor and willingness to help others. Steve and Beni enjoyed a 44-year marriage that was an example for others of enduring love, commitment, and mutual support through the challenges and opportunities life offers.
