Susan Rockafellow

Susan Louise (Carney) Rockafellow was born August 29th 1946 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Willard and Nona (Wildman) Carney. She went Home to be with JESUS on Monday, February 6th 2023.

After graduating City High School, she married Roger Ray Rockafellow, Sr. on January 29th 1967.  They moved to Lubbock in 1980 from Odessa, Texas, and then to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1992 before returning to the Lubbock area where they have lived in the Roosevelt community since 2017.

Early in her career Susan was employed by Procter & Gamble in Iowa City and later served in Public Schools Food Service both in Odessa and in Lubbock. The later years of her life were devoted to the occupation she most enjoyed, that of Wife, Mother and ‘Grammy’.

Susan was a skilled seamstress, excellent cook, industrious homemaker, and an avid reader.  Her favorite pastime was making cherished memories with her grandchildren.

She was a much-loved member of Living WORD Church in Lubbock.

Susan is survived by her husband of fifty-six years, Roger (‘Rocky’); son, Roger Rockafellow, Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO;  daughters, Rhonda Cantrell and husband, Eric, of Slaton, TX; and Renee Tilley and husband, Barry, of Lubbock;  grandchildren, Lindsay Rockafellow (Sam), of Woodward, OK; Kyle Cantrell (Kristen), of Slaton, TX;  great-grandchildren, Ezequiel, Jacoby, Timothy, Viviana and Yliana; ‘grand-dogs,’  Tobie and Sassie; sisters, Dinah Cassabaum and husband, Larry, of West Branch, IA;  Delores Wellman of West Liberty, IA; and brothers, Wayne, and wife Doris of West Branch, IA; and Bill and wife, Benita, of Iowa City, IA.;  as well as many dear nieces, nephews, friends and Church family.

Susan was predeceased by her parents Willard and Nona; sister, Bonnie Lea Carney; brother, Willard A. (‘Sonny’) Carney and sister-in-law, Carol; brother, Walter D. Carney and sister-in-law Dorothy (‘Dot’);  brother, Leonard K. Carney; and brother-in-law, David  Wellman.

A Family Visitation will be hosted on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Living WORD Church, 1102 Slide Road Ste.3,  from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Interment Service will be Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the cemetery in Abernathy, TX at 11:00 a.m.  The Celebration of Life Service for Susan will be held the same day at 2:00 p.m. at Living WORD Church in Lubbock. Officiating both services will be Rev. Willie Adams (Pastor, Eternal Light Church in Borger, Texas), a beloved former Pastor (with his late wife, Pauline) and longtime friend of the Rockafellow family.
