Tana Carol Gillett

Tana Carol Gillett, a cherished soul whose life was marked by a deep love for education, nature, and the simple joys of companionship, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas. She was born on March 26, 1949, in Lubbock. Tana's life reflected dedication, kindness, and an enduring curiosity about the world around her.

Tana devoted her career to nurturing young minds as an English teacher at Frendship High School. Over the years, she inspired students with her knowledge, patience, and genuine care. She instilled not only a love of literature, but also a lasting appreciation for self-expression and learning. Her influence reached far beyond the classroom and lives on in those she taught.

A lifelong learner, Tana earned her Bachelor's degree in Education from Texas Tech University and later her Master's degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin. These accomplishments reflected her strong belief in personal growth and the power of education-values she modeled every day.

Spring was Tana's favorite season, a time she eagerly anticipated each year. She found joy in tending her flower garden, which served as both a peaceful retreat and a reflection of her nurturing spirit. In many ways, her garden mirrored the care she gave to all aspects of her life.

Tana also shared a special bond with her beloved dogs and cats, whom she considered family. They brought her constant companionship, comfort, and happiness. A proud supporter of Texas Tech athletics, Tana enjoyed cheering on the Red Raiders and sharing in the sense of community they inspired. Her connection to her alma mater remained strong throughout her life.

She is survived by her sister, Rhonda Alexander; her nephew, Aaron Alexander; a great-niece and great-nephew; and many cousins who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Aaron Johnson and Floy Maxine Ham.

Tana Carol Gillett's life was like a vibrant bloom-full of warmth, care, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of her family, friends, students, and all who knew her.

Guests are encouraged to wear bright spring colors when attending her memorial service in honor of Tana's love for the season.

Memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
