Thomas Clark Carter

Thomas Clark Carter, 84, passed away January 10, 2025 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born in Winslow, Arizona on June 23, 1940. Tom married Shirley Blair Garnett and they spent fifty-six wonderful years at each other’s side, delighting in their shared love of horses.

Tom was a highly decorated United States Marine, honored with a Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and numerous other awards. Tom’s most cherished accomplishment was his thirty plus year Marine Corps career. Colonel Carter was a consummate leader of men who inspired Marines for decades and lead them with a dedication to duty and honor understood only by other Marines.

Those left to cherish Colonel Tom Carter’s memories are his wife, Shirley Blair Carter, and all the officers and men who served with Tom in the United States Marine Corps, as well as Tom’s lifelong friend, Chuck Vance.
