Vernell Clayton

Idalou

Vernell Clayton, 90, of Lubbock and formerly of Idalou, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.  Vernell was born on June 6, 1932, in Idalou, Lubbock County, Texas, to the late Lowell Winters McInroe and Elzina (Wallis) McInroe.  She received her education in the Idalou school system.

Vernell met the love of her life, Charles Clayton, and they were united in marriage on February 16, 1962, in Idalou.  He preceded her in death on January 23, 2009.

Vernell had a passion and love for buying and selling antiques, as well as playing bridge.  She was a long-time member of Green Lawn Church of Christ.

Those left to cherish her memory and honor include one daughter, Cindy Zeiss of Lubbock; one son, Charles Bradley Clayton of Catoosa, Oklahoma; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Danny Clayton; three sisters, Sue Savell, Veleta Phillips and LaVon Bolinger; son-in-law, Brad Zeiss; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3 PM on Friday, February 10, 2023, in the Idalou Cemetery, in Idalou, Texas.  Final rites and interment will be under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, 4404 Idalou Road, Lubbock, Texas 79403.
