Virgil Rogers Cross, Jr. (88), passed away October 10, 2025, in Lubbock, TX. He was born March 3, 1937, to Virgil Sr. and Eva Ermon (Slayton) Cross, in Whitesboro, TX. Virgil graduated from Hobbs High School, in 1956, and furthered his education at Western New Mexico State University, on a football scholar ship. As fate would have it, after 2 years, he was forced out due to injuries.

Virgil married Lynda Gail Sharp, and they spent the next 65 years and 7 months together. To this union, they had 3 sons, Randy, David, and Jerry. Virgil went to work for the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 39 years of service. He was awarded the Million Mile Club member, for 100,000 miles or 30years without a preventable accident. Virgil coached Boys Club Football and Little League Baseball.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Sr. and Eva Cross, a sister, Helen Mountcastle, and 3 brothers, Jim Cross, Leon Cross, and Tommy Cross. Those remaining to carry on his legacy and his memories are, his wife Lynda Gail Cross, their 3 sons, Randy and Sheryl Cross of Rio Rancho, NM, David and Cindi Cross of Englewood, CO, and Jerry and Amy Cross of Westminster, CO; a grandson, Jamie Cross of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and 2 great-grandsons.
