Wanda May Mankin

Wanda May Mankin, 76, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday evening, May 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and faith. Wanda was born on December 14, 1949, in Tucumcari, Quay County, New Mexico, to the late Orval William Rodgers and Effie Helen Fosset.

Wanda graduated from high school in Cisco, Texas 1968, and dedicated 30 years of service to the Lubbock State School, where she faithfully worked as a supervisor where she loved working with mentally and physically disabled children before retiring. Her caring spirit, strong work ethic, and compassion for others left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

On September 19, 2003, Wanda married the love of her life, Larry J. Mankin, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter and faith. Mr. Mankin preceded her in death on December 25, 2024.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her children: Ronald Smith and his husband Robert of Dallas; Tommy Smith and his wife Kimberlee of Lubbock, and her stepchildren: Todd Mankin and his wife Aubrey of Sanger, Kori Haggard and her husband Ray of Lubbock; one sister, Geri Simmons of Lubbock. She also leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren: Taryn Westfall, Tanner Smith, Emilee Smith, Hayden Haggard and Parker Haggard; and a precious great-grandson, Elliot Haggard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Jeff Mankin and a brother, Lee Rodgers.

Wanda’s greatest joy in life was her family and her church. She treasured every moment spent with those she loved. In her free time, she enjoyed RVing, traveling, gardening, quilting, and reading. Her gentle heart, unwavering faith, and loving presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Though our hearts grieve her loss, we find comfort in knowing she is now resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father.

Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Aldersgate Church, 10306 Indiana Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79423. Ryan Smallwood, lead pastor, will be officiating the services. Funeral arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
