William L. "Bill" Shields

William L. “Bill” Shields, 75, of Lorenzo, Texas, was welcomed into his heavenly home on April 3, 2026. 

Bill was born April 22, 1950, in Morton, Texas, to Walt and Christine Shields. He was raised in Levelland and Idalou, Texas, and graduated from Idalou High School in 1968. He later earned a degree in Agronomy from Texas Tech University in 1975 and remained a proud Red Raider throughout his life. 

Bill was married to his loving wife, Sheryl, for 56 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and community while raising their three children. 

A devoted husband and father, Bill was deeply involved in his children’s lives. He spent their younger years coaching Little Dribblers, leading Methodist youth groups, and participating in stock shows, creating lasting memories for his family. He was a man of faith and integrity. Bill served on numerous boards at both the state and local level and was a current member of the Lorenzo Lions Club. 

Bill devoted his entire career to the agricultural industry. At the time of his passing, he was serving as Gin Manager at Tx-Cot Co-op Gin. He served as a gin manager for a combined 21 years with Lorenzo Co-op and Tx-Cot Co-op Gins. 

Bill is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his children, Brandon and Angela Shields of Idalou, Texas, Jackie and Chris Barefield of Waynesboro, Georgia, and Debralee and Rusty Norris of Lorenzo, Texas; his siblings, Marilyn Webster and Wesley Shields (Nicole); his grandchildren, Chelsea Jones (Jace), Chandler Shields (Megan), Courtlyn Bird (Cade), Channing Cook (Austin), Coleman Shields, Chisholm Shields, Makayla Smoot (Allen), Evan Raley (Jessi), Garrison Raley (Darby), and Bailey Norris; and seven great-grandchildren, all who lovingly called him “Papa.” 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Christine Shields; his brother, Steve Shields; and his sister, Cynthia Shields. 

There will be a time of visitation from 5 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the home of Bill and Sheryl's, 101 N. VanBuren in Lorenzo, Texas 79343.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, next to Combest Family Funeral Home in Lubbock.  Pastor Gary Eggart of the Lorenzo Methodist Church will be the officiant, assisted by Chandler Shields.

Bill’s legacy lives on through his family and all who were blessed to know him. 

The family wishes those who want to remember Bill to donate in his memory to the Lorenzo Senior Citizens, PO Box 571, Lorenzo, TX 79343 or to the Lorenzo Methodist Church, PO Box 429, Lorenzo, TX 79343.
