Woodrow W. Rains

September 13, 1950 — August 20, 2025

Woodrow “Woody” Rains, 74, passed away surrounded by family who loved him dearly. He was born on September 13, 1950, in Heidelberg, Germany, to the late Woodrow and Annie Rains.

Woody lived a life filled with curiosity, creativity, and care for others. Many who knew him will remember his love of tinkering. He delighted in taking things apart, understanding how they worked, and putting them back together. His talents extended into the garden, where his green thumb brought life and beauty to everything he planted, and into photography, where his keen eye captured moments others might have missed. Above all, Woody cherished his family. His greatest joy was gathering loved ones around the table, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, where he expressed his love through cooking and serving those closest to him. To Woody, food and family were inseparable, each dish a gesture of gratitude and devotion. Woody’s legacy will live on in the lives of his family, in the gardens he grew, the photographs he captured, and the countless memories of laughter and meals shared together. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Woody is survived by his loving wife, Mary Rains; his brothers, Gordon Rains, Steven Rains, and Kevin Rains; his sister, Karen Lowry; his son, Joshua Rains, daughter, Stephanie Narbaez; grandchildren, Anthony Perez, Ethan Echols, Dawson Rains, and Abel Rains; and great-grandchildren, Bethany Echols, Oliver Perez, and one precious baby on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Annie Rains, and his sister, Cindy Maze.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 29, 2025 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. A inurnment will follow after the service has concluded at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.
