Lubbock

Marlene left us to be with the love of her life on January 11, 2023, and her heavenly father. The family of Marlene Pierce would like family and friends to celebrate her life at a memorial service on January 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at St Mathews Methodist Church in Lubbock Texas, the burial date will be later at Fairmont Cemetery in Follett Texas. Service can be followed online at https://www.facebook.com/St.MatthewLubbock/

Marlene was born on May 16, 1942, in Shattuck Oklahoma. She grew up on the family farm, riding horses, helping her parents with harvests, and helping caretaking of the local cemetery down the road.

During high school she participated in sports and choir was voted the most dedicated student. It was in high school that she met Billy Pierce through her sister and would realize they were destined to create the perfect love story. Married on July 29, 1961, at the Follett Methodist Church they celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

Attended East Texas University, South Plains College and received her bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University in 1977. She held jobs as a bookkeeper, clerk, but her calling was to be a teacher. Over 25 years of teaching she taught grades 1rst-12th, until her retirement from Dawson ISD in 1997.

Throughout the years they found a love of traveling across the United States, with family and friends joining them at times on their adventures. She lacked three states from seeing all 50 states. Her passion grew with her faith in supporting the youth and family of her home church. You can always anticipate Marlene placing her hand over heart and saying she is "Truly Blessed."

Surviving her are her sister Anita Sperry Savage and husband Douglas Savage of Amarillo, niece Pamela Savage of Lubbock, great nephews Tyler and Codey Yandell of Lubbock, great niece Jessica Yandell and great great niece Ryleigh Yandell of Wichita Falls. Preceded in death by husband Billy Pierce 2021, mother Margaret Deeds Sperry 1994, father Charles Orville Sperry 2009, nephew John Leslie Savage 2021

The family wants to thank the medical staff at Covenant Hospital and especially the staff at Carillon House for the compassion and care of our Marlene. The outpouring love and support, visits and phone calls, prayers from coast to coast and the ongoing support of Pastor Todd Sons from St Matthews Methodist Church.
