Sue Beck

October 9, 1940 — July 29, 2022

Lubbock

Sue Beck (Johnnie Sue) went home to her Savior on Friday, July 29th after a lengthy illness.  Services will be Thursday, August 4th at 2 PM at Calvary Baptist Church of Lubbock. Sue was born October 9, 1940, in Littlefield, Texas to John and Valerie Jackson. She attended school in Amherst and Littlefield and then moved to Madera, California during her Freshman year in high school.  Sue graduated from Madera High School in 1959. She met the love of her life, Gene Beck, on her first day of school in Madera and they married in 1959. They were married for 63 years.

Sue and Gene moved back to Texas in 1960 and they lived in many small communities on the South Plains, finally settling in Lubbock in 1981.  They raised their children, Suzie, Scott, and Melinda, on the South Plains and Sue was the anchor of their home. Sue became a believer in Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 9 and she and Gene instilled the love of God and family in their children.  She was an avid supporter of her children’s activities. She also loved to do crafts, especially ceramics, and made many wonderful items which she gave to family and friends.

Sue loved to travel and had visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and several European countries. After retirement, they spent most of each summer in Ruidoso, New Mexico in their RV and would also travel around the country with the RV.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, John and Valerie Jackson, and her brother, Kenneth Jackson.  She is survived by her husband, Gene, son Scott Beck and his wife Linda, of Brownfield, daughter Melinda Beck, of Lubbock and daughter Suzie Jameson and her husband Gary, also of Lubbock. Sue also has 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Bridge Hospice of Lubbock for their support and care during these last weeks and suggests memorials to either Bridge Hospice or Lubbock Meals on Wheels.
