Wanda Louise George

Wanda Louise George, 91, of Lubbock, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 8, 2022.  Wanda was born on April 21, 1931, in Lone Wolf, Kiowa County, Oklahoma, to the late Claud L. Horton and Minerva Mae (Dyer) Horton.

She met Kenneth George, the love of her life, and they were joined in marriage on December 22, 1948, in Edmondson, Texas.  Mr. George preceded her in death in August 2011.

Louise was a homemaker, a devoted mother to her children and grandmother to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She loved her church, Sunset Church of Christ, where she was a long-time member.  She also worked as a school custodian for the San Diego, California school district for many years, before retiring in the late 1980’s.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include two sons, Ken George and wife Kellie of Amarillo and Gary Brent George and wife Amy of Lubbock; one daughter, LaDonna Gay Cothran and husband Jeff of Spring Valley, California; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Ronald George in September 2007, a granddaughter, Janae George in October 2002, three brothers, Leon Horton, Raymond Horton, Wayne Horton, and one sister, Betty Jones.

Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Sunset Church of Christ, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.  Private burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Sunset International Bible Institute, 3723 34th Street, Lubbock, TX 79410.
